Service Description

Service Description:
A full-time programme supporting students to achieve high quality, paid and sustained employment by the end of the internship. Supported Internships are for students with learning difficulties and/or autism in Swale or Medway who have an Education, Health and Care Plan and are aged 16-24. The programme can be a 1- or 2-year course. The first year will comprise of a pre-internship year and will consist of up to 3 days within the classroom and 1 or 2 days at a voluntary placement. The second year will comprise of 1 or 2 days in the classroom and 3 days at an identified placement with an employer that reflects the young person’s future employment aspirations.

This programme suits students who want to work and who learn best by ‘doing’.

It comprises two elements of support:

1. Within the work placement an employment specialist will work with the student to find a good fit with one of our partner organisations. The intern will ‘learn on the job’ with the ongoing support of their specialist and the employer.

2. Within the classroom students study the application of Maths and English. There is specialist support with functional skills tutors and support mentors in every lesson.

Referrals must have an EHCP.
