Wraparound childcare

What is wraparound childcare?

Wraparound childcare is before and after school childcare, such as breakfast clubs and after school provision for primary school aged children in England.

The provision typically runs before school from 8am and after school until 6pm, during term time, either on a school site or another local setting such as a community centre, a nursery, or a childminder.

This is different from out-of-school activities, or school clubs that can be a one-off activity.

From September 2024, you can expect to see an increase in the number of wraparound childcare places available across Medway.

The links below are to access toolkits to support both Early Years and Wraparound Childcare.

The toolkits are designed to be used by all providers of childcare, including PVI, childminders, school and Local Authority run provision. One toolkit is for Wraparound providers and one for Early Years providers. The purpose of the toolkits is to help childcare providers find the support they need for all aspects of starting, growing, and sustaining childcare settings and businesses.

Each toolkit has been created by experts to bring the huge range of information, support and guidance already available into one easy to use resource. The toolkits complement information already available on the HUB and in addition to signposting to Government guidance and resources, connects to sector organisations, banks, and other expert advice and support.
