Service Description:Carers Relief Service employ Personal Support Workers to work in the community with adults who have a learning disability, to relieve the main carer from the pressure of caring. Over the years the emphasis has changed from staff staying in the client's home to more requests to encourage adults with a learning disability to make choices about the activities they engage in within their community.
Duties can include, shopping, cinema and theare trips, swimming, hospital visits, attending parties and clubs, discos and support to attend a college/educational course. We have our own projects such as a computer class and drama session.
We run a Tuesday day club at which we have cooking and activity sessions and this also provides a safe venue to engage with friends and socialise , Carers Refief Service has an allotment to teach gardening skills and on which we grow fruit and vegetables promoting healthy eating and activity
We may also stay in the home to provide time for carers to relax, enjoy an outside interest or attend a social event. The service is designed to meet each carer's specific needs and provides a person centered approach to providing an individual care plan to the adult with a learning disability. The importance of familiar staff attending regularly is recognised. A service is also provided to those wishing to purchase care hours using ILF, direct payments or individualised budgets.

In addition, KCC gives financial support to enable us to provide care at no charge for a few hours per week to residents of Swale. All we ask is reimbursement of travel and out of pocket expenses.
Carers Relief Service is registered with the Commission of Social Care Inspection.
